Deficit thinking... or is it deficit actions?
If there's one common thing I experience often in my career as a teacher, it would be deficit thinking. It's a harsh reality and it's rife.
I just don't think some teachers 'get it'. Possibly because of privilege, ignorance, denial? Who knows. I cringe every time I hear a teacher talk about a student that I have taken the time to get to know and speak about them like they are worthless pieces of s#*t. What is worse is when the teacher can't understand why that student is disrespectful or disengaged in their classrooms.
